merry fucking christmas
2005-12-21, 8:56 a.m.
i am VERY angry with the transit union in NYC. i have many choice words for them.
if you don't live in NYC, you have no idea.
no subways or buses are running.
i feel bad for the tourists. they came here to see NYC. now all they see is chaos.
imagine waiting in line two hours just to get on the Long Island Railroad because the people who live in Queens, who USUALLY take the subways in, are now also relying on the railroad. (The Long Island Railroad and Metro North are still operating).
because of the strike, i get up at 5 a.m., drive to a local parking lot in Queens with three co-workers, then walk over the 59th street bridge to work in Times SQuare. this walks takes us one hour, in the FREEZING COLD.
because of them my husband can't even get to work and is losing money and his ego is bruised by the fact that he is staying home all day while i am working.
he has no alternative. no carpool situation. a cab would be too costly.
i try to tell him it's okay, it's not your fault. you have no choice.
but that doesn't help. he feels like shit about staying home.
but yesterday he made my life a hell of a lot easier. dinner was on the table when i came home, and then he got up with me this morning and made my coffee.
*******
last night it took four hours to get home because i drove in with three others, instead of walking. we learned the hard way.
i will walk home this evening. perhaps it won't be quite as cold. the sun will be shining.
it could be worse. we could have rain and snow.
but with every stride i become angrier. i fantasizse about torturing their union leader. deporting him back to Haiti. or prison.
he is a power monger. seems to love the spotlight. he doesn't care that he's hurting people. even the transit workers - they have no choice. they HAVE to strike. they loose twice their pay, daily. they get fined. their families suffer because of it. who can afford that kind of financial blow?
the strike in 1980 lasted eleven days. who knows how long this will last. one day was already enough.
it will cost all of us a lot of money in the end.
my friend got ripped off yesterday. you have to have four people in a car coming into manhattan. the driver charged all three of them $20 a piece.
it burns me up that these taxi drivers are taking advantage of people in difficult situations.
merry fucking christmas.
