My husband is always reminding me of the Greek influence on modern civilization, particularly words in the English language derived from Greek. I don't argue with him, I'm keenly aware of the fact that there is nothing original about the English language or the United States. Pretty much everything was either stolen or influenced by another culture. And everyone who lives here is the product of immigrants, whether it be your parents, grandparents, great parents - somewhere down the line someone in your family hopped a boat and came here to start a life of freedom and opportunity.
God bless America!

Last night I had a little meltdown because the baby was extremely restless and wasn't sleeping for his normal one to two hour stretches. In fact our little guy was waking up every half hour or so due to teething.
I usually encourage my husband to sleep on the couch so that he can get the sleep he needs for work the next day, so it's all up to me to comfort and put the baby back to sleep. Well I was just so tired last night, more than usual, and for a moment I found myself wishing I didn't have a child. Can you imagine wanting sleep so desperately that you actually wish your child away? What kind of person am I?
But when I woke up this morning and found a little cherub smiling up at me I was reminded of why it doesn't matter that I'm not sleeping, my son is the best thing that happened to me.
Do you know he makes me love him more and more every day, and gosh darnit I don't know how he does it!
It should be said that my husband, thank god, came into the bed last night and insisted that I sleep on the couch. He must have heard me pleading to god to help me. It went something like this, "Please god help me I don't know how much more of this I can take...I REALLY need to sleep and so does he."
This morning I asked my husband how long it took him to get the baby back to sleep. "Just a few minutes," he bragged. "I just told him it's time to go to sleep and he did."
I told him, "It must be your Greek influence." But the truth is I don't believe a word of it!
