As my baby fast approaches his six month anniversary, I find myself getting excited about introducing him to solid foods.
I made up my mind before he was born that when the time came I was going to invest in a food processor and make my own baby food. And while I'm still 100% onboard with this commitment, I recently came across HAPPY BABY FOOD and have decided to supplement the foods I make with a few of their scrumptious offerings.
I'm very excited that they are offering cereals with probiotics. These probiotics are good bacteria specially formulated to help strengthen your baby's digestive system which can protect against the development of allergies.
I have been reading about the immunity boosting benefits of probiotics for some time now, and as a breastfeeding mom I have been taking them on my own in order to share these benefits with baby.
I believe Happy Baby cereals are the only ones on the market that contain probiotics. The other fantastic thing about them, aside from being organic and iron fortified as well, is that they do not contain any traces of chemical fertilizers, genetically modified ingredients or pesticides.
Happy Baby also has a wide selection of frozen vegetable and fruit puree combos like Yes Peas & Thank You Carrots, Smarter Squash & Wiser Apple, and Sweeter Potatoes & Purer Pear.
Although I can easily create these purees myself, it may come down a whether or not I always have the time. It won't be a bad I idea to keep a few of these on hand in case this happens. I plan to try the Sweeter Potatoes & Purer Pear combo.
For babies nine months and up, Happy Baby also offers a wide selection of frozen meals such as CHICK CHICK AND SUPER SALMON.
Containing 18% of baby's recommended daily value of protein, CHICK CHICK is made from organic peas, organic spinach, organic butternut squash, organic chicken, water, organic sweet potato, organic zucchini, and organic brown rice.
SUPER SALMON is made from organic French lentils, organic sweet potato, organic potato, wild salmon, organic carrots, water necessary for cooking, coconut oil. Salmon is one of the most nutritious sources of the omega 3 essential fatty acid, DHA, which is critical for baby's brain and eye development.
Baby has been constipated, teething and sick with a cold for days now. To alleviate his stuffy nose, I use the non-medicated saline drops from Little Noses. To alleviate his constipation I read that it's okay to give a six month old baby two tablespoons of diluted prune juice every day to help soften the stool. It's not that he's not having bowel movements, he has them but they're extremely hard and cause him some pain when passing them. Also have cut back on cereal for a couple of days now and only feeding him mashed bananas and apples.
I'm sure his constipation is also the result of the fact that I've had to occasionally feed him formula because of my dwindling breastmilk supply. I read that it could be a hormonal change in a woman's body that causes this and should only be temporary.
As a result of my low supply of breastmilk, I've had to supplement this with an organic, iron enriched formula. (The iron could be the culprit here as it is also in the cereal). We use EARTH'S BEST. Earth's Best also contains DHA.
Check out these fantastic glass bottles I just ordered! I'm always looking out for safe, non-leaching plastic baby bottle alternatives, like the ones from Born Free and Adiri. But regardless of the fact that these companies claim to make BPA free products, I always wanted to use glass bottles (glass is the safest way to go). I was reluctant to use them though, because of the possibility of dropping one and having it shatter - which is not a very safe option for baby, particularly once he is able to hold his own bottle.
And then I discovered these Wee-Go bottles from GO BABY LIFE. While the bottles are made of glass, the non-toxic, plastic-free sleeve will protect it from the inevitable fall. Also they're colorful. I would feed my son all six at one time just to be able to fully appreciate the rainbow of colors!
