mama rose finally gets some sleep!

If you've been reading me for a while then you know that I am always recommending THE VACCINE BOOK, by Dr. Bob Sears, particularly because of its alternate vaccine schedule. But I'm not sure how I feel about Sears' recent RESPONSE to the increase in Measles outbreaks. Apparently 12 more cases recently showed up in San Diego. Something I was not aware of.

Sears believes that if enough moms are still immunizing their children, then herd immunity will keep the Measles from once again becoming a widespread epidemic. The problem with this belief is that if enough mothers assume that all the other mothers out there are immunizing their children and based on this belief they decide to pass on immunizing their child, we very likely could see a return of the Measles in years to come.

Last night the baby slept better than he's slept in months! What did I do different? Here it is in a nutshell... I put him to sleep in his crib!

He's been co-sleeping with me and his daddy for months now, waking every hour to two hours. I thought it was just that he was a breastfeeding baby, or nocturnal, or something. But last night when he was in his crib, not only did he sleep more soundly, when he did wake up he was able to put himself back to sleep. I don't know how this miracle occurred. I hope it wasn't just some random thing that happened.

I have read about how being near mommy can keep a breastfeeding baby up because they smell the milk and instinctively want to be fed, even if they're not hungry. It gets to a point when it's actually not healthy for an older baby to be feeding every hour on the hour, especially when they fall back to sleep without being burped, or laying on their backs. This can lead to reflux. Also that many feedings can promote gum and tooth decay in older babies with teeth. As the breastmilk, formula or juice breaks down in the mouth into simple sugars and are allowed to sit in the mouth, bacteria start feeding on the sugars, causing tooth decay.

When the baby woke up this morning he didn't wake up crying either. Instead he lay in his crib playing with his feet and talking to himself.

my sister's son has autism. she had the same experience jenny mccarthy's son did after receiving the MMR. I don't know if she read this book, but she should. from what I hear it's really good.
