part of the snow issue in Chicago (and a lot of Wisconsin) is Lake Michigan. That large expanse of water does weird things to the weather. Have you considered Indiana? The weather there isn't as severe... and actually, this year was a record breaker, and it doesn't always happen. Besides, if you own your own home, YOU have to clean up all that snow! Or your sons can do it for you! Heh!

Living in WI was pretty rough this past year but you get really used to it fairly quickly. Did I mention this past winter was kind of a fluke?
The city of Chicago is always on top of keeping the streets and sidewalks clear. The midwest is a beautiful place to live and you'll only be a few hours away from me!!!! *grin*
